Prince Louis melts Royal fans' hearts with cute snap to celebrate 6th birthday

The Prince and Princess of Wales have shared an adorable new snap of their youngest child, Prince Louis as he celebrated his sixth birthday.

As is tradition for Prince William, 41, and Kate Middleton, 42, they share an updated photograph of their children on Instagram each year on their birthdays.

The latest snap of Prince Louis sees him beaming as he lays on a picnic blanket on the grass, wearing a cute checked shirt and jeans. The photograph was taken by his mother, Kate Middleton, who is a keen amateur photographer.

In the caption, the Waleses wrote: "Happy 6th Birthday, Prince Louis!

"Thank you for all the kind wishes today.

Royal fans rushed to bestow birthday wishes on the young Prince in the comments, as one wrote: "Happy Birthday Prince Louis! A sincere thank you to the Prince and Princess of Wales for releasing this photo."

Another said: "OMG. Happy Birthday to Prince Louis. Thank you so much for this beautiful photo. Louis looks so handsome and he looks so much like George here. I hope he's having an amazing day."

Someone else pointed out the resemblance between Louis and his big brother, Prince George, 10, commenting: "Louis looks so much like George here."

Prior to the Waleses releasing the image of Prince Louis, there was some speculation as to whether they were planning on breaking Royal tradition and not sharing a new snap.

It was thought that the decision linked to the controversy sparked by the last family portrait shared by the Royal Family. On March 10, a heartwarming photo of Kate Middleton with her three children Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Louis was published in honour of Mother's Day.

But shortly after its release, several global picture agencies withdrew the image amid concerns over its editing. They pointed out irregularities such as the alignment of Charlotte's hand, the lay of her skirt, and the placement of Kate's zipper.

The Princess of Wales later shared she had altered the photo and extended her apologies "for any confusion", explaining: "Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing."

However, Royal fans were appeased as Kate and William did indeed release the new image of Prince Louis at around lunchtime on Tuesday, 23 April.

Kate Middleton has been taking some time away from the spotlight after revealing her shock cancer diagnosis in March.

The Princess of Wales addressed her fans in a video shared to the Prince and Princess of Wales' official Instagram.

She did not share what cancer she is suffering from, however, she revealed that the cancer had been discovered after she underwent 'planned abdominal surgery' in January of this year.
