Prince Harry shares touching advice for son Prince Archie in new Netflix docuseries
Through all the roles Prince Harry's had in his life – from being born into the royal family to serving in the military and now working on other media and charity projects – he's clearly taken the role of dad very seriously. And now, as shown in a heartwarming speech about son Prince Archie's future dreams (and the best piece of advice he has for his firstborn), he's excelled in proud parent duties.
The touching moment, which took place on stage during the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games in The Hague in the Netherlands in 2022, has resurfaced in the new Netflix docuseries, Heart of Invictus (which follows competitors who have served in the military from around the world, all of whom have experienced life-changing injuries or illnesses, on their journey to the mass multi-sport event).
After his wife Meghan Markle (who he shares Archie, four, and Princess Lilibet, two, with) sweetly introduced him to the stage, saying she "could not love and respect him more", Harry (also founder of the Invictus Games), addressed the crowd.
"To be role models, or the role models, that each of you are, takes strength and courage," he said.
"When I talk to my son Archie [who would have been three at the time] about what he wants to be when he grows up, some days it's an astronaut, other days it's a pilot – a helicopter pilot obviously – or Kwazii from Octonauts. If you're laughing then you've seen that." Octonauts being the CBeebies cartoon about a group of animals and their underwater adventures and rescue missions, FYI.
"But what I remind him is that no matter what you want to be when you grow up, it's your character that matters most, and nothing would make his mum and me prouder than to see him have the character of what we see before us today," Harry added. He and Meghan welcomed Archie on 6 May 2019, while Lilibet was born on 4 June 2021.
In the speech the Duke of Sussex also acknowledged those involved with the Invictus Games have "overcome immense challenges", adding: "And together you are healing and teaching the world as you go."
Pretty touching stuff. We wonder if Archie has decided between an astronaut or pilot yet (or perhaps something else)!?
The Heart of Invictus (of which Harry is an executive producer) is on Netflix now, having been released on Wednesday.
