The royal rift between Prince William and Prince Harry is at an all-time high, despite King Charles's cancer diagnosis. Upon visiting England to see his father, Prince Harry made a point to reach out to Prince William during the visit, but there were "no plans" to actually meet up, People reports.

The outlet's sources suggest that the Prince of Wales wasn't bothered by not seeing his younger brother — at the moment, his “principal concern is his wife," Kate Middleton, while she continues to recover from abdominal surgery, but the lack of effort does raise concerns among palace insiders.

"It would be the normal run of things to go and see your sister-in-law who's had a serious operation and also see your niece and nephews. But it isn't normal. It's terribly sad,” a source with connections to the royal household told People.

The cause of the conflict is still largely tied to the release of Harry's memoir, Spare. William, ideally, wants Harry to regret his actions, but until then, has exclusive plans to protect the crown even if it means shutting out his brother.

“This is all to do with William’s wish to protect the institution of the monarchy, which he feels Harry can’t be trusted with. I don’t think William will ever agree to readmission of Harry into the family unless he clearly apologizes and moves forward,” royal author Robert Lacey explained in People's latest issue.

In the coming months, there is another chance for reconciliation. Prince Harry is expected to be back in England come May for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, but not even King Charles is banking on the brothers putting their differences aside.

“Of course he would like Harry to be the prodigal son and come back and would be much happier if William and Harry were friends again. But he realizes that is just not about to happen,” royal biographer Ingrid Seward, author of My Mother and I, said of the King. A palace insider agreed, adding, “Families are complicated. They may be a high-profile family, but they still have a lot of the same issues as everyone else.”
