'Harry has been like a dad all his life and now he actually has a son'

The Duke of Sussex celebrated his first Father’s Day on Sunday with his six-week-old son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

A former royal editor says Harry, 34, has always been paternal throughout his life.

Duncan Larcombe tells Yahoo UK’s ‘The Royal Box:’ “I think Harry has been a dad all his life, now he’s actually got a son, I don’t think it will actually change him that much.

“I think he’s just been waiting to have a child because of that playful side, he is like a big kid a lot of the time.”

The duke has had some sweet moments with youngsters over the years, including the two-year-old Hayley Henson who couldn’t resist taking a handful of his popcorn at the Invictus Games 2017 and five-year-old Luke Vincent, who tugged on his beard in Dubbo during his and Meghan’s royal tour of Australia.

Larcombe, who penned Prince Harry’s biography, says the royal is a “really funny guy.”

“He puts you at ease straight away, with some sort of joke, sometimes slightly outrageous... I think he will be a fantastic dad.”

PR expert Nick Ede says Harry “has got a great sense of humour like his dad.”

He says: “His [Prince Charles] best friend was Joan Rivers and that was somebody who had a really big sense of humour, was always really risky so I think Harry’s always had that.

“The fact of the matter is he just jokes with kids, he’s been joking all his life, so now he’s got his child, I think we’ll see lots more as well.”

Royal biographer Angela Levin adds that she thinks Harry will show his love for Archie, in the way that Princess Diana was always hugging and kissing him and William.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a new photo of baby Archie holding on to his dad’s hand to mark Harry’s first Father’s Day.

It’s thought the next time the royal tot will be seen in public will be for his christening, which will reportedly take place at Windsor Castle in July.
