Prince Harry goes ‘shopping for my wife’ as he continues Far East trip without Meghan
The Duke of Sussex was pictured shopping for a present for his wife after travelling to Japan without her.
Prince Harry, 38, posed alongside his longtime friend Nacho Figueras in a picture posted to the Argentinian polo player’s Instagram account.
The pair are pictured standing side by side with their arms crossed and wearing aviator sunglasses in a store in Tokyo with a caption on the photo that says: “Shopping for our wives.”
Prince Harry was in Japan without his wife to attend the International Sports Promotion Society sports values summit with Mr Figueras for a two-day trip.
Meanwhile, the Duchess of Sussex enjoyed a “girls’ night” as she attended a Swift’s Eras tour concert in the US with her close British friend Lucy Fraser, who featured in the couple’s Netflix docuseries.
The Duchess, 42, was reportedly seen leaping out of her chair to sing along to Swift’s You Belong With Me at LA’s SoFi stadium on Tuesday evening, according to People magazine.
It comes after reports that Swift snubbed an invitation to appear on the Duchess’s Archetypes podcast on Spotify.
It is alleged that Meghan wrote a personal letter to the singer, asking her to appear on the show, but that the singer declined, through a representative.
Meghan’s night out came as her husband spoke at a summit in Tokyo, telling the audience that his “life is charity” for his first in-person public engagement since mid-May.
Speaking at the event on Wednesday, the Duke said: “I’ve been involved in many charities for most of my life, and I get a huge amount of fulfilment giving back to as many people as possible. My life is charity – always has been, always will be.”
“I have long believed that sport is a conduit for healing – not just for the mind and body but the world,” he added.
In Mr Figueras’s Instagram post of him and the Duke shopping, the polo player wrote: “A big thank you to Tokyo for your generous hospitality and kindness towards us. And of course, for your continued support of Sentebale.”
The Duke received a warm welcome in Japan on Tuesday, later telling the summit that he had enjoyed “the most incredible Kobe steak, both for dinner last night and lunch today”, adding: “Your warmth, your compassion, your generosity, every single element of the Japanese culture is really unique and very, very special.”
Mr Figueras and Prince Harry have now flown to Singapore, where they will both play in the annual fundraising Sentebale Polo Cup this weekend.
The event has been held since 2010 and has raised £11 million for the charity in that time.
Speaking last week, the Duke said: “The funds raised this year will support our clubs and camps programme, which provides intensive psychosocial support to young people living with HIV.”
He will play for the Royal Salute Sentebale Team against the Singapore Polo Club Team, which will be captained by Mr Figueras, the charity’s ambassador.
The Prince’s recent trips have been made without his wife and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, but the royal couple is set to make a public appearance together in early September for the 2023 Invictus Games in Düsseldorf, Germany.
In a new video released one month ahead of the Games, the Duke revealed he was both “excited and nervous” about the event, adding that it has been “too long.”
He finished by thanking the veterans for their service and saying: “We’re going to have fun, we’re going to have a lot of fun…we’re ready.”
Prince Harry set up the Paralympic-style sporting competition in 2014 to aid the rehabilitation of injured and sick military personnel and veterans, and it is a cause he holds very close to his heart.
He said that there will be 21 nations competing this year, with the newcomers including Nigeria, Israel and Columbia.
It came after he was stripped of the title “His Royal Highness” on the royal website on Wednesday, three years after stepping back from official duties.
