Every year, the Royal Family gathers for a grand celebration of the monarch's official birthday at Trooping the Colour.

This event is a highlight for Royal enthusiasts as it culminates in the family's appearance on Buckingham Palace's balcony to watch the RAF flypast. It's a joyous occasion that offers a glimpse into the royals' interactions and has become a fan favourite.

While we often see King Charles and other senior royals due to their public roles, Trooping the Colour provides a special chance to catch a glimpse of the younger Windsors. The little royals tend to capture hearts with their playful behaviour which is rarely seen by the public.

A particularly endearing moment was when Prince George called his mother, Princess Kate, by a sweet nickname, which a lip reader managed to decipher.

This adorable exchange took place during the 2022 Trooping the Colour, part of Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. As Prince George rode alongside his mother to Horse Guards Parade, lip reader Jeremy Freeman caught the young prince referring to Kate as "Momma", reports the Mirror.

The affectionate nicknaming is mutual, with Kate having a charmingly British pet name for her son: PG tips. This cute name for the young royal unsurprisingly aligns with his rather regal initials, with some also shortening it to just 'Tips'.

The Royal Family, it seems, have a fondness for playful nicknames, as evidenced by the fact that Prince Philip also had an endearing shorthand used by close friends and family - 'P. P.', using his initials.

Prince George also has a nickname for his dad Prince William who he calls Pops. The youngster was overheard at a royal function back in 2018 saying to Prince William: “Are you playing football tomorrow, Pops?”

This year, Kate, 42, who is having preventative cancer treatment, might be making an appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony following the Trooping the Colour ceremony if she is feeling well enough.

Kensington Palace confirmed the Princess would not be officially taking part in the final dress rehearsal for the King's birthday celebrations on June 8, but did not rule out her attending the main event a week later.

As colonel-in-chief of the Irish Guards, Kate would usually take the salute at The Colonel's Review, the second of three ticketed Trooping the Colour events which begin today with The Major General's Review at Horse Guards Parade.
