It's a truth universally acknowledged that Danny Dyer could, one day, become the King of the United Kingdom – but what do the current royal family think about that?

Well, as it turns out, they're pretty cool about it. Or at least Prince Charles is, anyway.

In a family reunion of sorts, Danny Dyer and the Prince of Wales came face-to-face at the recent Prince's Trust Awards, where Danny used the opportunity to reveal his right royal heritage.

After being introduced to Charles, Danny told him (via ITV News): "I'm in EastEnders. Just wanted to let you know we're related as well.

"King Edward III is my grandfather – but I won't go into it. No he is, on my life."

In a genuinely charming response, Prince Charles reacted to the news that Dyer is his (very) distant relative by later addressing him as "Daniel Dyer" – something we're sure no-one else could get away with.

"I've discovered a long-lost relation in Daniel Dyer," the Prince said on stage at the ceremony. "He told me he was descended from Edward III, which was interesting.

"I must do some research on that."

Speaking recently about his newly-discovered royal heritage, Danny admitted that although the news is "remarkable", he's not taking it too seriously.

"It's quite remarkable news, but of course I don't go bowling around with my ruff on," he said, disappointingly.
