Prince Andrew: The musical branded 'awful' but viewers can't stop watching

Viewers have criticised the all-singing all-dancing account of the Prince's troubles but said they couldn't switch off anyway

TV viewers have have said they were glued to the Prince Andrew musical despite branding it "awful" and "trashy".

The satirical send-up covered the royal's relationships and controversies and touched on his Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis in 2019, in which he talked about his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

It aired on Channel 4 this week and viewers were quick to criticise the all-singing all-dancing account of the Prince's fall from grace.

However, many agreed that they couldn't stop watching the show, which saw Two Doors Down star Kieran Hodgson play Andrew.

"Prince Andrew The Musical is kind of awful but I can't stop watching," tweeted one viewer.

Another posted: "Must admit I’m enjoying Prince Andrew The Musical. It’s very trashy, but much fun."

Another called it "shocking, perverse and terribly bad", but added: "Can’t stop watching."

"I don’t know if I’m enjoying Prince Andrew The Musical but I can’t stop watching," said somebody else.

"Did anyone else think Prince Andrew The Musical was utterly brilliant?" tweeted one fan, while another person said that it was "genius".

One person posted: "Prince Andrew The Musical on @Channel4 was a hoot. Watching it I was really hoping that @maitlis was too and found it as hilarious."

However, there were also those who thought that the show was inappropriate and that it was in bad taste.

One person called it "tasteless" and another tweeted: "To be fair, this scandal is about serious criminality and it wasn't treated as such."

Someone else wrote: "I enjoy Channel 4 and its sometimes controversial programmes but I feel Prince Andrew The Musical is a step too far."
