If sewing is more your thing, 2025 will see a huge surge in transforming upholstery fabrics into garments, as well as repairing our clothes in a stylish way.

Here we take you through the biggest craft trends to expect this year, and how to incorporate them into your upcoming projects.

Happy crafting!

Transforming textiles

We’re expecting crafters to get wildly creative with their use of textiles in 2025 – we’ll see lots of sewers recycling and reusing old fabrics for new projects. If you’re tired of certain pieces in your wardrobe, why not use the material to transform them into something new?

For example, cut up old dresses and stitch them into a beautiful patchwork quilt. Or be part of the huge social media trend of taking embroidered tablecloths and turning them into pretty blouses.

The only limit is your imagination!

Say it with (dried) flowers

Dried flowers are such a pretty and economical way of incorporating your favourite blooms into your home and projects.

This year will see us using them in so many of our favourite crafts, from stuffing embroidered wardrobe scenters with lavender to artfully arranging pressed dried flowers to make thoughtful additions to birthday cards and presents.

Yarn colour drenching

Have you heard of colour drenching? It’s the ‘it’ decorating technique that involves covering every part of a room in the same colour – walls, ceiling and skirting boards.

So why not apply the same principle to your crochet or knitting and be part of the huge trend this year? Create a beautiful knitted co-ord outfit all in one yarn colour, or a crochet granny square blanket in one shade of yarn to join in the craze.

Embracing visible mending

Every year at Prima we like to find different and fun ways to embrace imperfections in crafting. So we’re delighted to see the trend for visible mending emerging for 2025.

Visible mending – repairing or mending pieces so you can still see the cracks and seams – can be applied to a range of craft hobbies.

If you love sewing, there are many different ways to embrace visible mending; why not try sashiko, a beautiful type of Japanese embroidery that can breathe new life into old fabrics?

Or repair a much-loved piece of pottery with kintsugi, which leaves a delicate gold line of glue over a crack. You could even keep it really simple and just hand stitch a floral patch over a hole in a jumper!

Colourful crochet accessories

Yes, there are beautiful jumpers, cardigans and vests you can crochet – but 2025 will also see a huge surge in stitchers making colourful crochet accessories for their handmade wardrobes.

There’s an abundance of gorgeous crochet accessories to choose from, including scrunchies, bags, makeup pouches and much more. They’re also the perfect crochet project for beginner stitchers looking to hone their skills.

Beautiful block printing

Gorgeous block-printed textiles are everywhere at the moment – and it’s such an easy effect to achieve yourself, even if you have no printing or painting experience. Buy a set of blocks (or make your own using lino!) and some ink, and create beautiful, unique wrapping paper, napkins, tablecloths and so much more.

It’s a craft trend that can take you through the year – start by printing spring flowers, then summer scenes, autumn leaves and, finally, Christmas motifs. Try Cambridge Imprint or The Indian Block Print Company for supplies and beginner kits.
