If there’s one wedding look that has lived in our memories rent-free since the Nineties, it’s the Beckhams in those purple outfits. England footballer David and his Spice Girl bride Victoria stole front pages when they celebrating tying the knot on this day, 4 July, back in 1999, wearing arguably the boldest wedding looks in history, designed by Antonio Berardi. Posh and Becks wore cream for the intimate ceremony itself, held at Luttrellstown Castle in Ireland, but when the time came to party with a star-studded guest list, they nailed the brief. Let’s not forget those golden thrones they sat in, either…

Fast forward to today and Britain’s biggest showbiz couple are marking their 25th wedding anniversary. To celebrate, they’ve given the fans what they want and dug out their iconic matching get-ups to recreate the pictures – and they’re quite something.

'Look what we found,' the pair wrote on Instagram to caption a picture of them sitting in the crushed velvet thrones. They then shared another photo, showing them walking hand-in-hand through their grounds, writing: 'Yep, still got it! Can’t believe it’s been 25 years and they still fit!

The Beckhams also shouted out their four children Brooklyn (25), Romeo (21) Cruz (19) and Harper (12), writing ‘we love you so much’ on the post with a purple heart emoji. Brooklyn, who was four months old on his parents’ big day, wore a purple suit too – but sadly, that no longer fits!

Speaking about their purple outfits in last year’s Netflix documentary, David insisted that it was all Victoria’s fault decision. ‘I’m trying to think back to when I decided to wear a purple suit, and I don’t know when that happened,’ he said. ‘I think I just took Victoria’s lead on it, but what were we thinking?’

Victoria, meanwhile had no regrets. 'It was fun!' she said. 'We weren't worried about what people were going to say. I mean Christ, how lovely to be that way when you just don't really care, you just want to express yourselves.'

The thrones, though? 'I don't know where the thrones came from,' she admitted.

Well, for the nostalgia factor alone, we're very glad they went for the Quality Street aesthetic, thrones and all. Happy anniversary, David and Victoria!
