Pointless' Richard Osman has shared a lovely tribute to his co-host Alexander Armstrong ahead of leaving the quiz show.

Earlier this year, the presenter announced he would exit the BBC One programme after more than a decade.

On 21 July, Osman took to Twitter to share a clip of him and Armstrong during the final show taping together. The episode only aired yesterday (July 20), but it was filmed a few months back. At the time, the two hosts were the only ones aware of Osman's plan to leave.

"I will still be on screen for a while in repeats, but yesterday was my final ever episode of daytime Pointless after 12 years," Osman shared in the caption.

"Only Xander and I knew that at [the] time of recording, so I wanted to give him a heartfelt message. New episodes with new hosts will be with [you] in September!"

In the short video, Osman says he is often asked about Pointless and working with Armstrong in interviews, but has come to realise he rarely shares his feelings with his co-host directly.

"I just want to say how lucky I am to work with you," Osman told Armstrong. "I always think at the end of the interview, I must tell Xander in person, which I never do."

"That's the nicest thing in the world!" Armstrong replied, telling Osman he feels the same way about him.

When announcing he would depart the show, Osman explained he decided to focus on his writing, but he would still host the celebrity shows and House of Games.

After the summer break, a set of guest hosts will step in for Osman: former Coronation Street star Sally Lindsay, Taskmaster's Ed Gamble and The Last Leg's Alex Brooker, as well as BBC Radio 6 Music presenter Lauren Laverne, The Split's Stephen Mangan and Xtra Factor presenter Konnie Huq.

Pointless airs on BBC One.
