Poignant hidden meaning in the Queen's Platinum Jubilee portrait
After what feels like months of waiting, the Platinum Jubilee weekend is finally upon us! For the general populace, it means four days of BBQs and Pimm's, but for the Royal enthusiasts out there, it's all about celebrating the Queen and her seven decades of service.
The weekend's proceedings include the annual Trooping the Colour parade and Platinum Jubilee beacons on Thursday 2 June, as well as a Service of Thanksgiving for the Queen’s reign on Friday 3 June, the Derby at Epsom Downs and the Platinum Party at the Palace on Saturday 4 June and the Platinum Jubilee Pageant on Sunday 5 June.
To kick things off, last night (Wednesday 1 June) Buckingham Palace released an official portrait of the Queen for the Platinum Jubilee: and there's a sweet detail you might have missed.
Photographed by Kent-based photographer Ranald Mackechnie, the Queen is wearing a light blue coat with pearl and diamanté embellishment, designed by Angela Kelly.
On social media, where the image was posted on the official @theroyalfamily Instagram and Twitter accounts, the overjoyed comments from fans have been coming in thick and fast with users commenting the likes of "As beautiful as the day she took the crown".
It's important to note that the image is taken in the private apartments at Windsor Castle and, in the background, eagle-eyed fans might have spotted the castle’s Round Tower, and the statue of King Charles II which stands in the quadrangle of the castle.
The photo's location is significant as Windsor Castle is considered to be among her favourite residences, holding happy memories for her. Windsor Castle is even where she stayed during her teen years during WWII, instead of being evacuated to a location abroad.
So there you have it, a meaningful location for a meaningful event!
