All the places the Gavin & Stacey cast were spotted dining at while filming in Barry
It is over. Smithy and Nessa finally admitted their true feelings for each other and we never did get to find out exactly what happened on that fishing trip. Sigh.
And while the Gavin & Stacey cast and crew have assured us they will never be gracing Trinity Street or Barry Island again, during their last ever stint in south Wales they supported a lot of local businesses. The gang, James Corden, Ruth Jones, Joanna Page, Mathew Horne, Rob Brydon and many more spent weeks filming back in south Wales in summer 2024.
During this time they were spotted supporting many local and independent businesses and if you are looking for inspiration for where to try next, why not take a leaf out of their books? Here are some of the great foodie businesses the Gavin & Stacey cast visited while they filmed the final ever episode.

Whocult
Who doesn't love doughnuts? Independent doughnut company Whocult, who are so successful they have stores across south Wales including in Barry, Cardiff, Swansea and more, supplied the cast and crew with doughnuts. Posting to their Instagram page, they said they were "buzzing" to provide the goods, which was a surprise for those working on the show.
They said: "Only the best for the best! What's the perfect way to wrap up the last day of filming? WHOCULT donuts, of course! Some of the iconic cast of Gavin & Stacey enjoying some custom donuts ordered as a surprise from the show's amazing director Chris Gernon, and we couldn't be more chuffed to fuel such legends. Thanks for making us part of your big day - we're buzzing!"
Purple Poppadom
One of south Wales' most revered Indian restaurants is Purple Poppadom, owned by Anand George who is also behind Tukka Tuk market stalls in Cardiff Market and Barry's Goodsheds. This restaurant already has a lot of celebrity visitors, including Hollywood actor Jason Flemyng who visited in 2023. Now the Gavin & Stacey cast can be added to the list, as they enjoyed a meal there while filming.
Rob Brydon posted pictures of the meal to his Instagram and posting to Facebook, Purple Poppadom said: "We were honoured to host Gavin & Stacey cast celebration dinner!... We thank the Gavin & Stacey team for the wonderful memories they have created over the years."
Front Room
James Corden surprised the owner of new pizzeria and cafe space the Front Room in Barry when he popped in to try some pizza after a day of filming for the Gavin & Stacey Christmas special. The Front Room opened earlier in 2024, but has already found success in Barry and received high praise from the whole Gavin & Stacey cast.
During the fourth week of filming for the huge BBC comedy, the Gavin & Stacey cast and crew used the Front Room as a green room. While the cast was readied in hair and makeup David and the other Front Room staff treated the crew and waiting fans to pizza throughout the day.
Word about how good the pizza was quickly began to spread to the cast members. In a video shared by the Front Room, after trying a slice of the pizza, James said: "Oh my god, that's so good," before shaking David's hand.
David added that James invests in a pizza restaurant in Italy so spent a lot of time chatting in depth about how the pizza is made, as well as taking photos with him and the other staff. Larry Lamb also stopped by for a pizza.
David said: "He was brilliant - he just came in for pizza but he was really generous in taking pictures with customers and chatting with them and the staff. It was lots of fun because we are all big fans of the show."
Larry also had a unique connection with Front Room, as his son George Lamb is a co-founder of Wildfarmed, and David uses their flour for his pizza. You can read more about that here.
The Tynewydd Inn
In the days before filming started many of the cast were spotted, including Melanie Walters. The actress, 62, took time to pose for a photo with fans at The Tynewydd Inn pub in Barry.
The social media account Barrybados posted pics of Melanie at the pub, captioning the post: "Only Gwen at the Tinny Pub! Filming starting soon. Credit Angela Barnett!" You can read more, here.
Boofy's
Boofy's actually features in Gavin & Stacey as one of the fish and chip shops on the front, near Nessa's iconic arcades. The cast visited Boofy's for fish and chips on different occasions and posed for pictures with the staff.
Usta
Turkish restaurant Usta, in Barry Island, was visited by Larry Lamb during the filming. They posted on Instagram: "Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming the legendary Larry Lamb at Usta!"
Mr Villa's
They just can't stay away from the fish and chips! Another fish and chip shop in Barry that was visited by the cast was Mr Villa's. For the latest TV & Showbiz news, sign up to our newsletter
