Indiana Jones 5 spoilers follow.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge has dropped some hints about her Indiana Jones 5 character.
A new look has arrived from the movie, showing the Fleabag star's character Helena alongside her godfather Indy (Harrison Ford).
In the latest issue of Empire, Phoebe describes Helena as "a mystery and a wonder" who is not unlike the adventurous character legendary Hollywood actress Barbara Stanwyck played in 1941's The Lady Eve.
Director James Mangold was similarly cagey as he described this new character as "slippery, charming, the girl next door, a grifter".
This new goddaughter for Indiana Jones was actually created after a conversation between Phoebe and producer Kathleen Kennedy, who she'd worked with on Solo: A Star Wars Story.
"Kathy was in London and asked to have dinner with me, and casually mentioned this,” Waller-Bridge remembers. “I immediately ordered ten bottles of wine. Then it was the fastest I’ve ever read a script; I came out of a sort of haze afterwards.
"I just couldn’t believe how much fun I had and how moved I was by it. And then I had a Zoom and screamed, ‘YES!’ at them all."
She added: "Honestly, I just loved it. When you’re playing a character who throws herself on the back of a vehicle, there’s no acting around that. You just have to bloody do it.”
It was revealed earlier this week that the filmmaking team have digitally de-aged Harrison Ford for one of the big action sequences in the film. We've no doubt that decision will generate a lot of debate!
Indiana Jones 5 is scheduled for release on June 23, 2023.
