Welcome to Season 5 of Yahoo Sports’ baseball-card driven walk down memory lane. We’ve got a treat for you in our season premiere. Joe Girardi, the new Philadelphia Phillies manager and four-time World Series winner, joins us to open up a pack of 1990 Topps. We talk about his new digs in Philly, the fraternity of catcher he’s proud to be a part of and one new NL East rival (and friend) in particular.
Even though MLB is shut down amid the coronavirus outbreak, this new season of “Old Baseball Cards” will fill the hole in your baseball-loving heart.
Girardi has stories, memories and observations about everybody from Ty Cobb (yep, he turns up) to Trevor Bauer. We also opened a pack of 2019 Topps Allen & Ginter in this episode, getting us legends from the past and modern players. When it’s time to make a trade, we get some inter-generational negotiations going. And one of us takes a bite of 30-year-old gum.
