Peter Andre opens up in his OK! column about the sad news, which was revealed last week by her devoted husband, of Pauline Qiurke's devastating dementia diagnosis three years ago - a condition the Mysterious Girl singer's mother also suffers from.

Elsewhere, he talks about how the whole family is excited at Bear Grylls' new show Bear Hunt coming soon to Netflix as they're all big fans in the Andre household - and gets reflective as he opens up about his upcoming birthday, and what he wouldn't give to have his parents back to full health...

Precious moments

I absolutely agree with the author Frank Cottrell-Boyce when he said that every child should have access to books to help improve their happiness. Reading is one of the things Emily and I really focus on doing with our own kids. We try and sit with them every night to either read a book or create a story ourselves. It’s an incredible bonding moment and so good for their brains.

TV legend

Pauline Quirke’s retirement due to dementia is very sad. She’s a legend of TV and theatre and set up her drama academies, but she’s also just a human.

When you have someone like Pauline, who has given so much in her field, and she is forced to step away from it not out of choice, it’s a double blow of being diagnosed and also having to give up something you love and are passionate about. My thoughts are with her and her family.

Tackling the blues

It was Blue Monday last week and I can totally understand why it’s called that. Christmas and New Year are over, the weather’s terrible and everyone is usually back at work. I saw that Emily spoke about this on her social media and I think it’s good she is using her voice so powerfully to talk about mental health, and it’s something she’s really passionate about in her work.

When I lost my brother and I was in a bad way, Emily would encourage me to go for a walk every day. There’s so much power in keeping active, talking to your loved ones, cooking, whatever helps clear your mind a bit.

Feeling grateful

It’s my birthday next month so I’ve naturally been thinking about life. I’m so grateful for so many things; my family, my health, my friends. I think life is all about balance now – I love my food, including very healthy and “junk” foods, but also my exercise.

I’m really excited for what the next year will bring me. I’m very blessed in so many ways. The only thing is my parents – I would give everything else up 100 fold just to have them in full health and back to their youth, but, unfortunately, life isn’t like that.

Bear’s back!

We love a bit of Bear Grylls in this house so we’re excited to watch Celebrity Bear Hunt. I’ve got a lot of determination and a lot of guts but I’m not sure I would want to be in the situations he puts himself in. It’s amazing how he’s learnt to handle harsh circumstances and survive in the bleakest conditions, but I’d definitely rather be watching from home!
