Editors' Picks are the Fashionista team's true (#notspon) fashion and beauty obsessions, handpicked by professionals who see it all.

I'm reaching the point of summer where I really, really don't want to dress up. If I can't wear bike shorts and a tank top, I'm probably not going. Alas, that's not a super realistic ultimatum: I still have work events and meetings that, while casual, require some sort of effort. So, when such occasions that require being perceived pop up on my calendar, my go-to move is to reach for a one-and-done dress — the type that's comfortable, easy and requires only a shoe and a bag (and maybe one piece of jewelry) to feel like a complete outfit.

A long-sleeved button-front shirtdress is an old reliable in this department. It feels current no matter what's happening in the trend cycle, and can be styled with pretty much any kind of footwear (sporty with a sneaker, beachy with a sandal, dressy with a kitten heel, no-fuss with a ballet flat). I currently have my eyes on the Jules from Alex Mill, one of my favorite purveyors of forever pieces. According to the brand's site, the silhouette is inspired by vintage menswear, but boasts a subtle stitching detail that adds some definition to the waist.

The Jules is available in sizes XS to XL, and comes in two stripe patterns: blue and white, and white with thin black and olive lines. I'll probably go for the former, to wear with my trusty gold hoops and flats for the remainder of the summer.
