If there's one item the Duchess of Cambridge wears particularly well, it's coats. The royal's penchant for elegant outerwear has been well documented over the years as she's stepped out in countless designer creations.

Perhaps Kate's most memorable coat of all time is without a doubt her green wool number, defined by its flattering skirted shape and velvet trims.

Kate's reworn this coat not one, but twice, opting for the Catherine Walker design for several public engagements. It's clearly a favourite, and it's not hard to see why: the skirted shape is so flattering, while the velvet trims are a luxe touch for winter.

If you admire Kate's coat game but don't have the budget to match, we've got good news. Monsoon has just dropped an incredible high street alternative for £165 that is perfect for Christmas.

This coat isn't green, but comes in a beautiful deep shape of Bordeaux red, which feels just right for this time of year. It has the same skirted shape, is also made from structured wool and trimmed with velvet at the collars and cuffs – much like Kate's original look.

We can't wait to wear this number over a slip dress, or team it with knee high boots and layer it over jumpers for the festive season.

If you would rather take your style inspo straight from Kate, we've taken a trip down memory lane and documented all the time she's stepped in the OG.

The Duchess of Cambridge was first spotted in this coat back in 2017 on St Patrick's Day, teamed with a tonal Philip Treacy hat and Monica Vinader's Siren earrings (they're going on sale soon – find out more here).

Next, Kate took the coat to Paris, taking down her up-do and forgoing tights to create a more relaxed look. The royal teamed it with a padded velvet headband from Prada, 20-denier tights and black court shoes.

She re-wore it again a year later in 2018, when visiting Westminster Abbey with Prince William.

Had your heart set on green? Monsoon has some great alternatives this season.

This emerald wool coat has a military-inspired A-line shape, but the tonal velvet cuffs and gold buttons feel very royal.

With its skirted hem and green wool, this coat also feels like something Kate would wear.
