19 Cringey Date Stories That Will Make You Want To Stay Single Forever And Ever

Going on dates is hit or miss — sometimes it's love at first sight and other times it's completely awful. I recently asked the BuzzFeed Community to share the worst places they ever went on a date. Here are some of the most cringe-worthy (and hilarious!) stories:

1."I got married when I was 20. I wanted to go to the casino for my 21st birthday. My husband said he would take me somewhere I had to be 21 to enter. He took me to the porn store."

2."She took me to a park she loved going to with her ex. Um, it was time to move on for both of us."

3."First date at their kid's swim meet. Not coffee like a regular person, which the date was supposed to be, but sitting on bleachers watching adolescent swimmers."

4."Snowshoeing. Which, by itself, is not a bad date. But those suckers are heavier than they look and I was not in the shape I could have been. I huffed and puffed the whole way. My soon-to-be boyfriend (and longtime friend) was very patient. He was absolutely ripped and in peak physical condition, so I kept having to adjust his expectations of how fast I could move."

5."A tanning salon. He proceeded to strip down, get in the bed, and try to convince me to climb in with him. Unfortunately, he drove us there and this was 1997, so pre-Uber. I stood in a corner waiting for him to finish and take me home."

6."My first date was Wendy's. Not an awful place (especially at age 17), just not where I'd romanticized my first date would take place since I was a young girl. This was back when the man was expected to pay for everything. It helped me adjust my expectations for what teenage boys could afford."

8."I had a date that was too cheap to take me to a restaurant so instead we went to Costco and feasted on the samples."

9."I've been a vegetarian for most of my life, and at the time of the date, I was a vegan. This guy took me to a steak house! The only thing I could order was a side salad. He wasn't even good company. And, yes, he KNEW I was a vegan!"

10."A guy's house. He made Swedish meatball turkey meatloaf, and even today, if I think about it too hard, I get a little sick to my stomach, and my back gets sweaty."

11."In college, this guy took me to a discount movie theater and tickets were three dollars each. It's college, I get that. However, he paid 100% in change. He could have switched out the change for cash before the date so it didn't feel so incredibly cheap."

13."I went to a date's house to meet him for the first time. I was dressed nice expecting to go to a pub as we had discussed. Instead, he was wearing shorts and slippers and made himself dinner as I awkwardly sat and watched him eat. Then we watched darts which I had no interest in. He still stalks my Instagram shamelessly."

14."Hard Rock Cafe. If you have been to one, you know. Lesson learned: If the date is from out of town, pick a restaurant for them."

15."It was homecoming at the University of Georgia. The young man, another student, suggested we picnic before the game. He took me to a nearby cemetery, which was fairly close to the stadium. I was creeped out because this was our first date. Then I found out he hadn't gotten us tickets inside the stadium. We stood outside the stadium, occasionally getting some glimpses of the game. Needless to say, I did not accept a second date."

17."The night started nicely, and we went to an art show where some of her friends had pieces. The night ended with her asking to stop by Best Buy to look at a camera and begging her ex to take her back. We skipped dinner after that."

19.And finally, "I worked at an office building, and a nice guy had his lunch breaks at the same time I did. We became lunch friends. He invited me to a Halloween costume party, and since my long-term boyfriend (now husband) was working the evening of the party, it sounded like a fun way to pass the time. He picks me up, and we arrive, not at a friend’s house, but at a nice venue. He had neglected to tell me that this Halloween party was a WEDDING. You don't surprise/trick people into being a wedding date! Everyone was nice, and my boyfriend thought it was bizarre but hilarious, but come on…"
