People share memories of Chippy Lane as celebs post Caroline Street picture

Fans have been sharing their stories about a famous street in Cardiff after two celebrities posted a photo on social media. On Sunday evening, December 29, Welsh presenters Gethin Jones and Owain Wyn Evans posed for a photo on Caroline Street in the centre of Cardiff, which is also fondly known as Chippy Lane or Chip Alley.

The two, who have recently starred in a pantomime together, were spotted holding platefuls of chips on the iconic street, which is famous for its string of fish and chip shops, as well as kebab and pizza takeaways. On Gethin Jones' Instagram, he posted a photo of the two with the caption: 'If you know, you know...'. For the latest TV & Showbiz news, sign up to our newsletter.

The photo has garnered a lot of reactions online, with many sharing their preferred name for Caroline Street, while others shared their stories and experiences of the street. It seemed that many were all too familiar with the street. Drag artist Baga Chipz said: "Love chippy lane!", while comedian Mike Bubbins jokingly responded to the photo with: "Anybody who doesn't call Caroline Street 'Caroline Street' should be sent into exile."

With the photo also shared on Facebook, others noted they called the street by very different names. One said: "Chip Shop Alley it will always be to us." While another fan, also on Facebook, responded with "Many a drunken night has ended in chip pan alley - food [was] fab there".

Meanwhile, others shared their fond memories of the famous street. In response to the photo, one fan said: "It was the highlight of my birthday night out in town last year". They added: "Couldn't wait for Gravy and chips on chippy lane - people watching!". Another fan recalled: "Last time I was there someone vomited at the side of me outside then she carried on eating chips... keeping it classy the chippy alley way x".

While another fan said: "Love Caroline St. Went to a night club just up the road called Samantha 's half way through the evening went to get curry and chips then back to the club fantastic mid seventies." Another fan responded with: "Hope there's curry on those chips! I miss Caerdydd so much". While another said:" Yup, Uni at Ponty meant some Saturday nights in Cardiff and Chippy Lane was always an end of the night visit!"

On Facebook, another fan remarked: "Wow I remember chippy lane from 50yrs ago. They had an amazing big steak house there also. Enjoy." While another fan, who was also feeling nostalgic, said: "Loved Caroline Street when I was a student in the 70s!!"

It comes after Caroline Street was mentioned in a recent episode of BBC's The Graham Norton Show, in which Irish actress and Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan explained she had visited the street while filming Doctor Who. The star revealed she was left very impressed with the Cardiff city centre street that many of us know and love.
