Motorists have been left battled by a 'hidden detail' in the Ford logo that has been around for over 100 years.

The motoring company was started in 1903 by Henry Ford. The globally recognised brand is the sixth-largest automaker worldwide and the second-biggest in the US.

Millions of drivers will recognise the iconic blue and white emblem, however one part of the company's logo has gone under the radar.

Ford's symbol features a simple dark blue oval with the company name inscribed in white cursive script at the centre. It's now come to light that the logo actually hides a curious point of contention.

Posting on TikTok, one user said there is debate around how the letters looks, which sparked curiosity between users, reports Lancs Live.

Monica Turner uploaded a video showing two versions of the emblem, one with an extra curl on the second stem of the "F", while the other lacks this feature. Only one represents the authentic Ford logo, yet Monica confessed her puzzlement, remarking: "This one's weird because the more I look at it, the more they both look wrong."

She delved deeper, stating: "This is one of the most recognisable logos in the world. This logo has changed over time. Sometimes it's a much bigger oval, sometimes the colours are different - there's red, there's black, there's different shades of blue. But the one thing that has always stayed the same is the actual logo."

Monica posed a question to her audience, asking which of two logos they believed was the genuine Ford emblem before unveiling that the authentic Ford logo has always featured a curl on the "F" - a detail many swear never existed.

She said: "The answer is the curl. It's always had the curl. Does it look right to you? I don't know. This is one that I don't know. I'm not familiar enough with it, but a lot of people are very vocal about this particular logo."

Viewers were left scratching their heads upon discovering the truth, with numerous people certain that the Ford logo lacked the swirl on the "F". However, an ex-Ford truck mechanic confirmed in the comments that the official emblem has always included the swirl, while the version missing the swirl is an uncopyrighted design commonly found on merchandise like shirts and hats.

How did Ford get its logo?

The origins of the Ford logo date back to the company's early days, when several different emblems were used. In 1909, Ford Motor Company adopted a logo inspired by founder Henry Ford's handwriting, which did not feature the curl on the "F." However, by 1911, the logo underwent another revision, resulting in a design that closely resembles today's version, over a century later.

Car Logos explained: "The Ford logo does not come directly from the signature of the founder, Henry Ford. However, the typography used in the logo is based on his handwriting.

"The font's origins date back to Childe Harold Wills, a Ford Motor Company engineer and designer who worked closely with Henry Ford. Wills studied Ford's signature and adapted it to create a distinctive font for the company's logo."

Although the reason behind the curled "F" is uncertain, some speculate it may have been designed to resemble a lowercase "E" as a nod to Edsel Ford, Henry's son, who served as the company's president from 1919 until his passing in 1943.
