Pastels are trending for spring and this is the royal-approved way to wear them

Pastels for spring are far from revolutionary, but Princess Sofia of Sweden, Queen Letizia of Spain and Princess Nina of Greece & Denmark have used them to give us a new way of layering for this season. The stylish royals have all worn a double dosing of pastels (think double denim) in recent weeks, proving sufficient proof that it's a must-have styling hack for your new season wardrobe.

The bright, muted tones of pastels posses a sense of calm, yet deliver the bout of cheerfulness we so desperately need after the dreary winter months. The colours provide an easy transition from our dark winter wardrobes to us into bold summer palettes (unless you’re Jennifer Lopez who dived in head first and wore neon on the red carpet last night).

Though the royals show multiple ways to wear pastels for any occasion, they all one one golden style rule when layering them up: combining with other colour palettes is a must to keep a look chic.

On March 28, Princess Sofia attended a seminar for dyslexia wearing a single breasted pastel pink blazer with a matching round neck base layer and a pastel Dolce and Gabbana Sicily bag. She balanced out the brightness with navy wide legged trousers.

Queen Letizia was another advocate for a tonal dress and bag combo. Using a style hack often used by the Princess of Wales, the Spanish royal epitomised spring-chic in a tie front midi dress from Spanish brand Cho Atelier. The dress boasted gigot sleeves and a subtle split from the dress hem to create a flattering silhouette. She paired with a lilac Olivia Mareque bag and nude Caroline Herrera court heels.

Princess Nina took a more casual-cool approach to the pastel trend, wearing a pink utility two-piece from Prada to the Louis Vuitton baby wear launch event. She added depth to the look with a wine-red waist belt and matching dangle earrings.
