A suspected terror attack in Westminster today is causing travel disruption in central London and could impact the commute home of thousands of workers.

Are trains disrupted?

Westminster Station is closed “due to a police investigation”, the District Line said on Twitter. “Trains are running but not stopping at Westminster.”

There is no other interconnecting line at the station and all other London Underground lines are running subject to usual disruptions.

What about the roads?

The Met is urging people to avoid Westminster and the Houses of Parliament, where the attack took place.

“Avoid Parliament Sq, Whitehall, Westminster and Lambeth Bridge, Victoria Street up to junction with Broadway & Victoria Embankment/tube,” the force said. Embankment tube station is open.

Transport for London (Tfl) said that all approaches towards Parliament were closed and that there was heavy traffic in the area.

The Met is urging people to remain calm, be alert and vigilant.

Have the buses been affected?

All buses are being diverted away from Westminster, TfL said, with bus tickets accepted on London Underground services.

Are any attractions impacted?

The London Eye, not far from the Houses of Parliament across the Thames, held guests in the attraction for a short while as the initial police operation took place.

Westminster Abbey has closed and will remain so for the rest of the day.

The Met said it was deploying additional police officers across the capital this afternoon.
