Oscar frontrunner Mikey Madison's tuxedo/dress breaks all the rules

The crime-drama directed by Sean Baker is fast becoming a favourite in the Oscars race, not least because of the stunning performance and killer star appeal of its lead Mikey Madison. The actress stars as the titular Anora, a stripper who gets married to the son of a Russian oligarch in a whirl-wind romance — until his family send in heavies to force the duo into an annulment.
The film was snubbed at the Golden Globes but swept up the prizes at this weekend's Critics Choice Awards amid the movie's stars' and crew's frenzied promo tour.
Mikey's style in particular has come into focus during this awards season. The 25-year-old actress, who has previously appeared in Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, Scream and the tv series Better Things has been working with the stylist Jamie Mizrahi to hone her distinctive style.
With a preference for sleek lines, minimalism, block colours, lashings of monochrome and strapless, full-length gowns, she's established herself as a bold, unique dresser on the industry circuit.
Her best look, however, arguably came at the Critics Choice Awards on Friday. As she was reportedly running late, she missed some of the red carpet coverage, but her look was worth the wait.
Specifically, she rocked a tuxedo/dress mashup in the form of a strapless black and white dress with a velvet black bodice and a white satin cummerbund and skirt styled with black velvet gloves featuring white cuffs. The look was vintage Giorgio Armani from the brand's Fall/Winter 1992 collection.
