Oreo's New Space Dunk Cookie Comes With a Fun Twist: the Chance to Go to Actual Space

Attention space fans: It's time to get excited. The solar eclipse, which will traverse a large section of the United States, is just days away. And while we're sure all you astronomy lovers already have your plans squared away, Oreo would like you to add one more tasty treat to your eclipse-snacking itinerary — its Oreo Space Dunk cookies. But hang on, there's more. The brand is also giving one lucky person the chance to dunk this cookie in space.
In January, Oreo released its limited-edition flavor, which comes stuffed with layers of blue and pink “cosmic creme," which it described as a "marshmallowy flavor," along with popping candies baked right in to create a "supernova bursting sensation with each bite."
Beyond being delicious, the cookies are rather fun to look at too: They each feature one of five galactic embossments and a small cut-out in the cookie, giving snackers the chance to see the colorful cream.

The cookies are already available nationwide, so go stock up before they inevitably sell out before the eclipse. Then, it's time to enter its space race contest, known as Lift Off with Oreo.
The sweepstakes is giving one lucky fan the chance to board a six-hour journey aboard the world’s first carbon-neutral spaceflight with Space Perspective. The balloon ride will gently take guests nine miles high, reaching 99% of the Earth's atmosphere. Once there, guests can take a zillion photos and even Wi-Fi them back to land, all while dunking their cookies.

"Oreo cookies are all about transporting fans to a place full of excitement and childlike curiosity," Michelle Deignan, vice president of Oreo, U.S., shared in a statement with Space.com. "We're over the moon about partnering with Space Perspective to give one lucky fan the opportunity to dunk an Oreo cookie while gliding through space. Through this campaign, we hope to take playfulness to new heights, proving it is not only in all of us, but also exists in space."
