Dust off your finest tinsel: Holiday party season is in full swing. Whether you’re headed to the office soirée or your family’s annual holiday dinner, there’s a dizzying number of occasions to dress up for this time of year. With so many events on the calendar, some fashion inspiration is definitely in order, and media maven Oprah Winfrey delivered just that.
While attending a film premiere last week, the star wore a head-to-toe velvet outfit, completing her look with a slicked-back ponytail and sparkly hoop earrings. Although her whole ensemble was imitation-worthy, it was her flared, wide-leg trousers in particular that sent me on a hunt for lookalikes. In my opinion, textures like velvet and sequins always feel festive, making pants like these a great choice for the holidays.

While my mind instantly went into party-mode when I saw these pants, the truth is, they’re super easy to style and versatile enough for any occasion. Oprah topped off her look with a matching blazer and vest, proving monochrome styling never misses. Personally, I could see myself wearing velvet pants with a chunky sweater, going-out top, or fun statement jacket, depending on where I’m headed.
In addition to their velvety fabric, the shape of these pants also deserves praise. I’ve tried practically every pants style, but have found none to be as flattering as the wide-leg silhouette. It’s effortlessly leg-lengthening, especially when you pair it with a pointy shoe like Oprah did.
Plus, wide-leg, velvet pants prioritize comfort. This Max Studio pair, for example, is roomy and stretchy but still maintains a polished look. I’m all for pieces that rival the ease of pajamas, so this comfy-chic pair has already made it to my cart.

As a New Yorker, black clothing is my bread-and-butter. However, it is December after all, so I’m also taking a look at red and green versions of this style. These burgundy bottoms are practically begging to be worn to an egg nog-filled gathering, while these emerald pants are fueling my current Wicked obsession. Neither of these jewel-toned options feel overly holiday-coded, so they can easily be worn through the following winter months, as well.
