One of Kate Middleton's favourite designers accuses Meghan Markle of copying her work
One of the Duchess of Cambridge‘s favourite designers is not happy with Meghan Markle‘s wedding dress – and we can kind of see why.
Designer Emilia Wickstead says Meghan Markle’s Givenchy gown is a near replica of a dress from her collection that retails for £6,915.
“Her dress is identical to one of our dresses,” Wickstead told the Daily Mail. “Apparently a lot of commentators were saying, ‘It’s an Emilia Wickstead dress.'”
Markle wore a very simple, elegant boat neck, gown by Clare Waight Keller, the newly named artistic director for French fashion house, Givenchy and reportedly cost close to £250,000.
Wickstead had some opinions over the fit and execution of Markle’s bridal look saying, “If you choose a simple design the fit should be perfect. Her wedding dress was quite loose.”
The designers feelings have been echoed by some, including Katy Perry who received criticism earlier this week for saying, “I would have done one more fitting.”
Wickstead, however, didn’t limit her criticism of Markle’s look to just her dress, and admitted she was not a fan of the royal bride’s slightly undone hairstyle. “I was like, ‘Hold the wisps back – it’s a Royal Wedding for God’s sake.”
Tell us how you really feel, Emilia!
However, at least one Wickstead design was at the royal nuptials. Australian actress Jacinda Barrett, wife of “Suits” star Gabriel Macht, wore a crimson Emilia Wickstead design.
Regardless of the similarities – they do say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Perhaps Princess Charlotte will give the designer a call in 20-30 years.
