Glen Powell Has One Ingredient He Never EatsHearst Owned

AFTER YEARS OF playing small characters like "Trader #1" in The Dark Knight Rises, Glen Powell has finally become a leading man. The Top Gun: Maverick star is starring in the major rom-com Anyone But You (alongside Sydney Sweeney), and he's the lead in director Richard Linklater's next action-comedy, Hitman. All that to say: it's a good time to be Glen Powell! So what does it take to keep in leading man shape? Powell showed Men's Health the secrets to his success in a new edition of Gym & Fridge.

To start the day, Powell has a nutritious breakfast sandwich consisting of sweet potato bread, eggs, kale, and homemade hot sauce. He admits sometimes he skips breakfast and instead will go for a big lunch or dinner after a workout. For a cheat meal, he loves ice cream.

Powell admits he loves to cook, so his fridge stays stocked with chicken and salmon. One thing you won't see in Powell's fridge, however, is dairy. "You'll never see cheese in my fridge," he says. That's a big deal for a Texan. So he instead enjoys non-dairy alternatives, like oat milk. For the rest of his diet, however, he isn't that picky.

"My diet is pretty chill," he says. "I come from a family of eaters, so if you made me truly diet, I'd think I'd be pretty grumpy."

When it comes to working out, Powell shoots for 4 to 5 times a week. He says he likes to focus on what exercises he likes, and is always trying new workouts. He also has various workout machines at home, like an assault bike and a rowing machine. Powell doesn't always have a plan for his workouts, he just focuses on moving. "If I don't wake up and do something, for the rest of the day, I feel like I'm playin catch up," he says.

In terms of workout advice, Powell learned a tip from his personal trainer – Nick Mitchell at Ultimate Performance – that can apply to anyone. During those excruciating last few reps, Powell's trainer gives him a mantra to power through: "Remember why you're here."

While you may not end up looking like Glen Powell after your workout, you'll be happy you pushed yourself.
