One of Idaho’s Most Expensive Homes Heads to the Auction Block

Since 2003, The Golf Club at Black Rock has remained one of Idaho’s most exclusive and sought-after private members’ communities. Perched on the scenic shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene, Black Rock comprises a 650-acre club with world-class golf and a handful of residences, plus every outdoor activity imaginable. Now, there’s a rare opportunity to acquire one of the homes in this prestigious enclave.

The seven-acre Pynewoods Estate, anchored by a sprawling contemporary home, is currently listed for $24.7 million but will head to the auction block via Sotheby’s Concierge Auctions. Bidding starts on September 19, and bids are expected to start up to $14 million. The property is offered in collaboration with Lea Williams of Tomlinson Sotheby’s International Realty. Across the estate’s three parcels are a main residence, a guest house, and a garden house with a total of five bedrooms, sleeping up to 16, and nine bathrooms. It was designed by renowned architect Eric Hedlund of EH Design, and, should the next owner want to expand, the offering includes plans by the architect for an additional guest house.

Pynewoods Estate Idaho great room
A vast expanse of telescopic glass panels set into a stone wall frames a panoramic vista over the lake.

A stone driveway winds through a forested landscape to a landscaped motor court where steel gates open to reveal the home’s entrance, which is flanked by water features. Beyond is a central, 40-foot-long great room that sits between two wings of the house. There are soaring ceilings accented with back-lit wood panels, stark white walls ideal for the display of art, and a wide bank of motorized glass doors that glide open and completely disappear into the walls to unite the room with the backyard. Rustic elements, like Telluride stone walls, add a sense of place to the crisp, modern design. There’s also a gas fireplace and a five-seat bar with a large TV and wine storage.

The gourmet chef’s kitchen, contained in a double-height space capped by a skylight, is sleek and functional with glossy white cabinetry imported from Italy, stone-tiled floors, and dark grey countertops. Appliances are from Gaggenau, Miele, and Sub-Zero, and the huge eat-in center island is for informal dining or to use as cooking prep space. Off the kitchen is the formal dining room, with two tables and Pierre ou Paul pendant lights by Ingo Maurer. Another bank of motorized glass doors opens to the backyard in this room as well.

An entire wing on the first floor is dedicated to the primary suite, which is entered through a striking glass-lined hallway that leads to a large bedroom with a fireplace and oversized windows framing the lush, watery landscape. The sprawling suite includes two offices, two bathrooms, a walk-in closet that looks like a designer boutique, a private gym, and direct access to the golf cart garage.

Two guest bedrooms are contained in a separate wing, along with a timber-beamed family room with a stone fireplace, skylight, and adjoining covered patio. Elsewhere is a rec room with a shuffleboard and game system. Outside the main residence’s great room, there’s a large outdoor fireplace and seating area, waterfalls, reflection pools, a regulation-size pickleball court, fruit orchards, and gardens. There’s even a separate garden house with a sauna, crafting space, and potting area. Finally, there’s the separate guest house, which has plenty of room for family and friends with two bedrooms, a kitchen, and a bunk room in about 2,200 square feet.

The property comes with a private boat slip and a Black Rock Golf Club membership, which allows you to play on the Jim Engh-designed golf course and enjoy the club’s many luxury amenities.
