What makes the Saucony Ride 17 such good value? In a word: versatility. I’ve run hundreds of miles in the Saucony Ride 17, firstly in testing, but it quickly became a go-to running shoe for when I wanted guaranteed comfort and a ride that maybe isn’t the most energetic but is reliable.
I love the fact that it brings comfort and stability to your slower miles, but balances a bit of softness with enough response to cope when the tempo ticks up a few gears. It’s protective but not pillowy, sinky soft. You wouldn’t lace it up for your fastest training runs but there’s a bit of snap that means it can handle everything up to tempo. Not to mention, excellent disappearing comfort from a nicely roomy fit that’s good for longer time out on the grind.
Balanced and brilliant value
The Ride 17 balances cushioned landings with rolling response and springy energy. But delivers it in a more traditional way with a medium midsole stack, a nice wide platform to run off and just-right plushness from the heel collars, tongues and uppers.
It’s not as soft and cushioned as shoes like the Asics Gel-Nimbus 26 and the New Balance 1080 V14, or its stablemate, the Saucony Triumph 22, but holding back from some of the most plush details saves on weight. That keeps the Ride 17 light enough to work for more than just your slowest runs.
This is what I’d call a workhorse — the kind of shoe that's an easy choice for when you’re heading out for a 'clear your head' kind of run.
It’s also an excellent choice for beginner runners or if you’re looking for one shoe to do it all up to race day.
