Holding Space for the New Meteorite-Dial Omega Omega

Towards the end of last year, during a soon-to-be viral interview on the Wicked promo trail, a journalist famously told actors Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande that she had seen people "holding space" for the lyrics of the film's biggest number, “Defying Gravity”. Everyone became very emotional, even if nobody quite knew what it actually meant.

According to the journalist herself (after Variety interviewed her), it could be defined as “being physically, emotionally and mentally present with someone or something”.

Given this definition, it is fair to say that Omega is always holding space for space itself.

The Swiss horology marque is constantly encouraging us to hold space on our wrists for its latest odes to the cosmos, something it has done since it became the first watch on the moon in 1969.

Yesterday, new rubber straps for its Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch watches.

Today, two editions of its Speedmaster watch complete, for the first time, with a dual-hemisphere moonphase complication. And the dial on each is literally made from extraterrestrial matter. One design sees the meteorite smothered in black and the other in coated in grey. The 43mm stainless steel collection is plainly named the Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite.

We didn't know it was happening, but it's just what we wanted.

It's, as Erivo would describe it, really powerful.

Striking, at least. And each is unique, which is to be expected since it's formed from rocks from the void above.

More space is held for outer space in the southernmost subdial. Here, you'll find the aforementioned, never-been-seen-on-a-Speemdaster dual hemisphere moonphase display where two moons – each formed from lunar meteorite – indicate the changing illuminations in the northern and southern hemispheres.

The decorative stars are positioned just as they were on the night the Apollo 11 reached the moon in 1969.

Overhead, there's a seconds counter with a date display at east and a 60-minute and 12-hour recorder in the subdial at west. A brand-new manual-winding co-axil master chronometer calibre keeps the whole thing running perfectly. It's a real piece of wizardry.

Head on down to your local Omega boutique to learn more about the drop, and perhaps even become physically, emotionally and mentally present with the two timepieces.

The team there is holding space for your arrival.
