Olympian Kendall Coyne Schofield Shares the Secret to Being 'the Best Version of Yourself'
The Professional Women's Hockey League player and Olympic gold medalist knows a thing or two about mindset and success
Kendall Coyne Schofield is a boss on the rink and off it, and the Olympic gold medalist knows that success starts in your head.
The Professional Women’s Hockey League player, who is also a new mom and the president of the PWHL players' union, teamed up with e.l.f. Cosmetics and PEOPLE to give a pep talk about how to be confident and ready to attack the day.
“For me it’s being where your feet are, being in the present moment, controlling what you can control, and there’s two things that I focus on controlling every single day.”
According to the three-time Olympian, that’s her work ethic and her attitude.

"I’ve realized my mindset is critical to my success,” she says, while seated next to an assortment of e.l.f. Cosmetics products — fittingly, as the brand is lending its support to the league in its inaugural season.
Coyne Schofield then walks viewers through her everyday routine with the help of some of her fave e.l.f items, starting with the Power Grip Primer and Liquid Putty Poreless Primer.
Next, the hockey star dishes on her “go-to” from the cosmetics line, which “is absolutely the Glow Reviver lip oil."
“I love the clear. I use it every day. I don’t think it matters what the occasion is, you can always have a good shine on your lips,” she says.
“I hope you’ve enjoyed my pep talk, and are inspired, and you are confident to be the best version of yourself!” she concludes.
Coyne Schofield knows a little something about being prepared for anything, as one of the members of the inaugural Professional Womens' Hockey League teams. She's been on the road with her infant son after husband Michael Schofield was recruited for the Detroit Lions, who ended up in the NFL playoffs. But any challenges have all been worth it to inspire kids to go after their dreams, she says — going back to that mindset she discussed in her Pep Talk video.
“For both young boys and girls to grow up and say women can play professional hockey and men can play professional hockey. To know that, to see that, to believe it, is incredibly important and it's everything,” Coyne Schofield told PEOPLE in January. “And I think this league is showing that.”
