Noughties movie actress welcomes new baby girl after secret pregnancy
Nanny McPhee star Eliza Bennett has welcomed a baby girl after a secret pregnancy. The actress, who portrayed one of the unruly children in the hit hit film, has welcomed the little one with her husband James Charlton.
Eliza hadn't revealed she was pregnant publicly, leaving fans shocked as she announced the news and admitted it wasn't an easy birth as she had to have an emergency C-section. Sharing a sweet video montage to her Instagram account, the new mum wrote: "I was a little quieter on here this year and this was for a few reasons but mainly because I had a little smoosh. Surprise!! I didn’t feel the pull to share my pregnancy or birth on social media but as we draw close to the end of the year, I put this video together and felt the urge to share. It’s a perfect lil snippet of some treasured moments from 2024.
"It’s a wild thing having a child. In some ways pregnancy and birth can seem almost mundane, so many women have babies, so many women I love have had babies. And then I did it myself. And boy, I will never look at these women the same way. I couldn’t believe how hard it was, how hard it is.
"My birth was not my ideal situation, 40 hours long and ending in an emergency C section left me in shock for a while. It was hard. The hardest thing I’ve ever done. And now I’m not sure I’ll ever get over the fact women do this, this primal physical sacrifice of their body all the time. Truly awe inspiring what women are capable of. ANYWAY, that was a long convoluted way of saying I had a baby and here’s a cute video. She really is so squishy and cute and I’m a big fan."
Back in 2005, Eliza starred alongside Emma Thompson, Colin Firth and Thomas Brodie-Sangster in Nanny McPhee. She portrayed Tora in the film, the oldest daughter and second oldest child of seven in the fictional family.
Working from aged nine, Reading-born Eliza starred in the West End production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as a youngster, before her fame in Nanny McPhee. These days, she recently starred in a Hallmark movie, An American In Austin, and appeared in the TV show Dynasty.
