So, not everyone is into Lily Collin's new Netflix show Emily in Paris
Emily in Paris is the new Netflix show that everyone's talking about rn. We'd like to start off by saying we really love it but sadly not everyone agrees.
Before we get into opinions, let's start off with the premise. The show follows Lily Collins who stars as the lead role Emily, from her home in Chicago all the way to Paris.
The move is spurred by her colleagues refusal to transfer, so, despite speaking zero French, Emily decides to take one for the team and ships herself off overseas.
Her company, a social media marketing firm, felt it was necessary to send Emily so that they could give the French firm they'd partnered with "an American perspective."
Think Sex In The City vibes. It's a chilled chick flick with fashion, romance and a lusty love triangle thrown in for good measure.
Yes, it might be cheesy at times, but it is also a delightfully easy watch - something we very much need right now.
If you've stepped outside at any point over the last couple of days (no shame if you haven't), you'll be aware that summer is, well, over. Winter calls for Netflix show binging and everybody knows it. Which is why we think this has come at the perfect time.
Unfortunately, not everyone shares our standpoint. Initial reactions from the French were somewhat, umm, harsh, with French radio station RTL writing, "We will nevertheless advise the creators of the show to learn the difference between a "raisin bread" and "a chocolatine" to avoid the diplomatic incident ..." Ouch.
French publication Les Inrockuptibles, who apparently loves to diss American pop culture, said that people were currently "laughing at the show."
Despite some damming reviews, we were pleased to see that lots of other people are loving it as much as us. Don't take our word for it, just look at some of these cute Tweets.
