“Not your average crime drama”: The One That Got Away is the chilling new BBC series you’ll binge in one night
Let's face it, who doesn't love a crime drama? And if, like us, you're looking for one you can really sink your teeth into, then you're in luck as there's a new psychological thriller landing from the BBC which promises to keep you guessing.
The One That Got Away is a new crime series set in a pretty coastal town in Wales where the residents are harbouring a dark historical secret. Old wounds are opened in the community when a nurse is murdered in the town, throwing a previous conviction into question and causing the locals to wonder whether there's a copycat killer on the loose.
And, if all that wasn't exciting enough, the plot follows DI Ffion Lloyd (played by Elen Rhys) as she attempts to track down the truth by partnering with her ex-lover, DS Rick Walters (Richard Harrington) and the BBC is promising an "electrifying love story". Juicy!
The drama has been penned by crime writing aficionado Catherine Tregenna, who has shows including Law & Order UK, Lewis and DCI Banks under her belt. Nick Andrews, Head of Commissioning for BBC Cymru Wales, describes the show as a “knotty, twisty-turny, edge-of-your-seat thriller," adding viewers will be, "gripped and quivering all at once – nail-biting stuff.” We can't wait.
Is The One That Got Away a good show?
Drawing on the killer (pun intended) plot, the BBC also describes the show as a "forensic examination of a town, a killer, and a relationship, past and present, " which is "deliciously dark and atmospheric" and is "sure to keep BBC viewers gripped to the very end."
The new drama is actually an English language version of a popular Welsh thriller from last year, so we're assured it's been built on a solid foundation for success already. And if you were a fan of Keeping Faith starring Eve Myles, this is definitely one for you.
