No One Expected That 'Landman' Finale Cameo James Minchin - Paramount

I don’t know what fans expected to happen in Landman’s season finale. Instead of wrapping up Tommy Norris’s (Billy Bob Thornton) problems and praying for season 2, creator Taylor Sheridan stacked even more worries on the shoulders of the Texas oil company manager. At the end of the season, Tommy finds himself in deep trouble with the local cartels, his ailing boss (Jon Hamm), and even OSHA. If you somehow predicted everything that went down in Landman’s season finale, there was definitely one major cameo that no one saw coming.

In Tommy’s final hour of need against the threat of the cartels, a new character played by Oscar-nominated actor Andy Garcia showed up to save the day. (Well, for now!) Garcia appears as the cartel's leader, Galino, after one of his underbosses, Jimenez (Alex Meraz), threatens and tortures Tommy. Galino kills Jimenez and frees Tommy, but not before explaining that he was dissatisfied with the way that Jimenez was running his business. If Landman is renewed for season 2, I’d bet shares of M-Tex that Galino returns as Tommy’s new foe.

“Tommy's dealing with someone now who is really smart,” Thornton told Variety about his character’s relationship with Galino moving forward. “The other guys were hired to work for him, but now Tommy's talking to the man himself. There are advantages and disadvantages to that… What’s the saying? Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Tommy figures if he semi-befriends this guy, maybe they can actually work this out."

Will Andy Garcia Return for Landman Season 2?

Paramount has yet to confirm if Garcia is part of their plans for season 2, especially since Landman hasn’t officially been renewed for another season. That still hasn’t stopped Sheridan from setting up the stakes if the series continues. Plus, most of the cast has already teased that season 2 is (unofficially) in the works.

In an interview with The Wrap, Thornton reportedly winked when he said what Tommy will most likely face in a second season. “I think Tommy’s driven to make it a success, but at the same time, scared shitless right now, to take this on, and probably does not want to do it,” Thornton said. “He does not want to take any kind of an executive position. And I got a feeling, if there were a season 2 [another wink], that he’s going to drag a lot of the landman into it, I don’t think the landman in Tommy is going away."
