Getting serious about your recovery and already own a massage gun or a pair of the best compression boots? Global powerhouse Nike and high-performance recovery specialist Hyperice have joined forces to take warm-up and recovery to the next level, unveiling two new products.

The brands have created a Nike x Hyperice boots and vest — wearable technology designed to help athletes competing at the Paris Olympics to perform at their best throughout training and competition.

The Nike x Hyperice boot is a wearable and mobile high-top shoe that offers heat and dynamic air compression massage for the feet and ankles. The boot contains a system of dual-air Normatec bladders bonded to warming elements that evenly distribute heat throughout the entire upper. This combination is designed to drive heat deep into the muscle and tissue in the foot and ankle, helping athletes move, perform and recover faster.

Athletes can also synchronise the heat and compression of both shoes, or choose to run the left and right shoes individually, selecting from three different levels of compression and heat powered by a battery pack in each shoe’s insole.

The second release is the Nike x Hyperice vest, which uses thermoelectric coolers to deliver instant heating and cooling without the need for ice or liquid. The idea is that it helps athletes to dial their body temperatures to their exact specifications during warm-ups and cool-downs.

‘Recovery is an important part of any athlete’s journey, but we’re hearing from athletes that this concept of ‘pre-covery’ is equally as important,’ says Tobie Hatfield, senior director, Nike athlete innovation. ‘The footwear and vest that we’ve developed with Hyperice help get the body ready for activity, whether you’re playing for a title or you’re on your feet a lot at work.’

For now, the products are being exclusively tested by Nike athletes as they integrate the products into their training and recovery routines ahead of the Paris Olympics next month. This includes the likes of Eliud Kipchoge, who's chasing a gold medal in the Olympic marathon.

‘I have used the Nike x Hyperice boots before and after many key sessions in my training for the Olympic marathon,' he says. 'When using [them] before a warm-up for a fartlek or hill session, it makes my legs feel light during the workout. I also use them post-run as a key part of recovering my muscles.’

The products will be released for general sale at a later date.
