Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis join drama

Nicole Kidman is officially bringing author Patricia Cornwell's forensic pathologist Kay Scarpetta to life for a Prime Video show.

The phenomenal crime book series kicked off with 1990's Postmortem before rolling out a mammoth 25 more entries – the most recent being last year's Livid.

According to Deadline, with the adaptation process now fully underway, Oscar-nominee Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All At Once) is also attached to play Scarpetta's sister Dorothy, with Liz Sarnoff (Barry) on showrunner duties.

Kidman and Curtis are both executive producing through their Blossom Films and Comet Pictures banners alongside Blumhouse Television, with the latter two originally securing the rights to Cornwell's character back in 2021.

Prime Video is reportedly readying a two-season order, with 16 episodes in mind.

Scarpetta is described as a "brilliant" mind in her field, inspired by former Virginia Chief Medical Examiner Marcella Farinelli Fierro, who utilises forensic technology to solve crimes.

"Patricia Cornwell is a bonafide literary trailblazer, and collaborating with her to bring her beloved character Kay Scarpetta to life through the power of television and to introduce her to an entirely new audience is exciting," Curtis commented on the announcement.

"The confluence of Blumhouse and Comet bringing to life a dark, fun and layered work world and family life, spearheaded by the smart and sexy indomitable Kay Scarpetta is going to be a thrilling ride."

Her co-producer and co-star Kidman has a lot on her plate these days, as she's also signed on for Taylor Sheridan's Lioness, Mimi Cave's next movie Holland, Michigan and Maya Erskine's limited thriller series The Nanny Killer.

The untitled project is yet to receive a release window.
