Next Step adding space for parenting women

Apr. 18—Next Step, the residential recovery community, plans to build a residential space for pregnant and parenting women, Director of Operations Tyler Spivey said.

A blighted home across the street from Next Step's main campus at 6th and Washington Streets was demolished last week to make way for the new building.

A goal of the new residences, Spivey said, "is to provide a safe place" for the women.

"One aspect of this is that it will provide long-term affordable housing," he added. "They'll have the ability to stick around a little longer."

Placing the residential area so close to the Next Step campus will make its recovery services easily accessible for the women, Spivey said.
