NEWS OF THE WEEK: Paramount sued over 'Top Gun' copyright

'Top Gun: Maverick' is crushing it at the box office but the studio behind the movie, Paramount Pictures, has had its celebration stifled. On June 6, Paramount was sued for copyright infringement by the family of Ehud Yonay, a writer who inspired 1986's 'Top Gun'. The family says the studio didn't reacquire the rights to Yonay's 1983 article, 'Top Guns'. According to the complaint, Yonay's heirs say they notified Paramount in January 2018 that they'd reclaim the copyright in January 2020.
