New American Hustle trailer lands

And it's all rather in homage to a certain Italian-American director.

And here we have it... a new trailer for director David O. Russell's following up to his Oscar-winning 'Silver Linings Playbook', the star-spangled 'American Hustle'.

As one might expect from Russell, it's a blisteringly assured, possibly cocky affair.

And it's all VERY Scorsese, as indeed was the first trailer released over the summer with its storming Led Zep soundtrack.

(Check it out down below...)

[Five gorgeous new retro American Hustle posters]

This one seems to be bordering on pastiche, in fact, featuring a voiceover, an old time-y crooner, mafia hits and then some further vintage rock action, this time ELO's '10538 Overture'.

Set in the 70s and early 80s during the Abscam sting, an FBI operation which rooted out corruption, this clip makes much of its male leads.

[Christian Bale sports paunch and bad hair for new film]

Christian Bale, in another transformative role, is sleazy player Irving Rosenfeld, a con man forced to assist the FBI, his strings pulled by maverick agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper).

Amy Adams is Rosenfeld's partner in crime (and in the bedroom), while Jennifer Lawrence is his volatile wife, the part of the puzzle which might bring things crashing down.

Jeremy Renner's role as New Jersey mayor Carmine Polito is shown for the first time here too.

There are also parts for Robert De Niro, Louis CK, Michael Pena and Jack Huston.

It's out in the UK on 20 December.
