The Nevermets fans 'emotional' over series finale but worrying about huge issue

Channel 4's reality series, The Nevermets, has been giving us a glimpse into the lives of long-distance lovers meeting in person for the first time. The show follows five couples who are not only separated by miles but also by different cultures.

Among the couples featured on the show have British catering assistant Sarah, 38, who travelled to the Philippines to meet Jgoy, a 27 year old Filipino virtual assistant. Their emotional farewell left viewers teary-eyed as they confessed their deep feelings for each other.

It also introduced us to Jay, a 17 year old A-level student who was just 15 when he met Veena, now 26, in a Game Of Thrones chatroom. He journeyed around 5,000 miles to meet her in India.

We also got to know Dumebi, a 25 year old charity founder from London and Mazi, a 27 year old luxury car rental broker from Dubai. After Mazi repeatedly showed up late for their meetings, Dumebi decided to end things, much to the delight of viewers.

And of course there's been Leah, a 24 year old social media manager from Glasgow, and Chad, a 48 year old project manager from North Dakota, USA. The pair met on a dating site called Seeking, known for its wealthy clientele and for connecting older men with younger women.

Last, but not least, have been Matt, a 38 year old Team Leader in a Warrington food packaging factory and Maria, 28, from Negros Occidental in the Phillipines. They met on a dating site called Twoo, and we found out that Matt is an introverted virgin who rarely left the house.

Viewers have been gripped by the various couples' stories with them 'feeling sorry' for Sarah and Jgoy, changing their minds over the relationship between Jay and Veena and worrying about how things might turn out between Leah and Chad.

But now the series has reached its finale, with it available on Channel 4 boxset, but also screened on Friday, 28 June at 10pm. It touchingly revealed how Matt and Maria had got married, but that things hadn't necessarily worked out quite so well for the others.

As narrator Dawn French concluded the series, fans admitted they were 'emotional' – but many were worried by one key issue.

On Reddit, one person said: "I loved the finale so much. I got emotional a few times. Matt and Maria's wedding was really beautiful, they both looked fantastic. I am a little cynical about Maria but I don't think she would intentionally hurt him. Matt's absolutely right to be proud of himself. That took a lot of courage for him and I hope they have a happy marriage."

Another felt the same, commenting: "When they first introduced Matt and showed him pining after Maria's filtered photos on his phone, I definitely did not expect how wholesome and beautiful their outcome would be! They were so sweet together. I really hope they did not just move into everything too quickly because they were swept up in all the magical, romantic feelings of all the "firsts" they encountered together. His family also seems incredibly sweet and kind. I'm glad they are living together already."

And a third simply added: "Rooting for Matt and Maria, I hope they will be happy together in the UK. His parents were lovely."

However, one worry remained for many people – the issue of travel visas.

"Shame that every other non-UK partner seems to have been denied all their visit visas! The UK seems to be strict as hell," said one person.

A second added: "You’re right, the U.K. does seem incredibly strict on visas, as well as expensive. I don’t like it. When did we become so unwelcoming?"

And a third penned: "So many people on these programmes assume the foreigners are gold digging visa-seekers, so it’s a breath of fresh air to have someone supportive for once."
