Netflix's 'Captains of the World' Holds a Lens Up to the 2022 FIFA World Cup

Netflix is offering the world an inside look at one of the most competitive sports tournaments in the world: the FIFA World Cup. A new documentary series from the streamer will look at the lives and careers of six captains and their teams in the lead-up to the 2022 championship.

Captains of the World features exclusive interviews with some of the biggest players today, including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and more.

The trailer gives viewers a preview of the high-stakes, high-energy dynamic. Voiceover clips speak about the pressure soccer players are under from their fans, country and FIFA, as well as the necessity of leaning on their loved ones.

Captains Of The World explores one of the greatest sporting spectacles of all time,” Netflix’s logline reads. “Featuring behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with captains, prominent players, coaches and more – this captivating docuseries revisits the tragedies and triumphs of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.”

The six-episode series is directed by Ben Turner and Gabe Turner and produced in partnership with Fulwell 73 and FIFA+.
