Nemo performs ‘The Code’ at the Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards, powered by Jaguar
Nemo served a powerful performance of their nob-binary anthem ‘The Code’ at the Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards, powered by Jaguar tonight [Wednesday 9 October 2024).
The 25-year-old from Biel, Switzerland won the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 with the track back in May 2024.
With lyrics including ‘I went to hell and back, to find myself on track, I broke the code, woah-oh-oh,’ ‘The Code’ explores themes of gender-diversity and evolving identity.
“The moment I wrote it, I was like, I’m getting to the core of myself” – Nemo
In a soon-to-published interview with Attitude, Nemo said of the song: “It’s an ‘I’ve figured myself out’ viewpoint. I gave myself the space and love to be honest with myself, even though there’s pressure from the outside.”
Nemo, also known for tracks like ‘Dance With Me’ and ‘Falling Again’, continued: “The moment I wrote it, I was like, ‘I’m getting to the core of myself.’”
Reflecting on lyrics like ‘Somewhere between the 0s and 1s, that’s where I found my kingdom come’, Nemo went on: “Society is set up against you from the start, it almost feels like, when you’re growing up the way I did, and the way I felt in situations.
“When I grew up, I didn’t have the language for it, the role models, or any way of even getting there. I had my first fever dream about it when I was 19, 20, and got to meet all these people, and different perspectives. All of a sudden, it made so much sense.
Nemo recently released their new single ‘Eurostar’.
