Actor Ned Eisenberg, best known for his roles in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (as Roger Kressler/Klein Rothberg/Jerry Kleinert) and Mare of Easttown (as Detective Hauser), has sadly passed away at the age of 65.

His wife Patricia released a statement about the incredibly sad news, explaining that Ned had been diagnosed with cancer and died over the weekend. "As Ned would say, he was attacked by two very rare assassins — cholangiocarcinoma [bile duct cancer] and ocular melanoma [a rare form of eye cancer]."

She continued on to tell TMZ that her husband continued working whilst unwell, in order to cover his medical bills, "Over the course of two years, he bravely fought the cancers in private while continuing to work in show business to ensure that his medical coverage paid for himself and his family."

As well as his silver screen credits, Ned has appeared in many a box office smash including Last Man Standing (also starring Bruce Willis), Million Dollar Baby (alongside Hilary Swank), A Civil Action, The Burning, Flags of Our Fathers and Limitless. He leaves behind a son, Lino, as well as his wife.

Actor Jennifer Tilly shared her fond memories of working with Ned on Twitter, writing, "RIP #NedEisenberg. We worked together on one of the first films I ever did: “Moving Violations.” Just a great all-around good guy. Always in good spirits, no matter how difficult the filming conditions were. He kept us laughing."

Playwright and screenwriter, Lawrence Wright, also recalled memories of Ned – and how one emotional performance he gave moved the audience to tears.

"Ned played Menachem Begin in the Old Globe production of my play Camp David. I worried he wouldn’t bring the necessary emotion. Opening night the audience in tears. Timing. Except for his death, too soon. Adieu friend."

Our thoughts are with all of Ned's loved ones during this very sad time.
