The National Trust launches Pooch Passports for visiting dogs
If you love heading for a long walk or day out at your local forest or woodland with your dog, the National Trust has just launched a great scheme – running from now until the end of February 2025.
Over one hundred National Trust sites across England, Wales and Northern Ireland will be inviting dog owners to pick up a free Pooch Passport for their pet over the autumn and winter months.
Each passport will contain space for owners to collect stamps from participating National Trust sites, including Attingham Park in Shropshire, Calke Abbey in Derbyshire, County Down’s Castle Ward, Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire and Ickworth Estate in Suffolk – to name but a few.
If that isn't an incentive to brave the colder weather and get out and about, after you’ve collected six different stamps, your pup will receive some treats from Forthglade’s National Trust natural pet food range.
Those who collect 12 stamps will also be able to pick up an exclusive National Trust dog snood.
All 111 National Trust places taking part in the fun and interactive activity have a two or three 'paw print' rating – which means that they’ve been checked to see how dog-friendly they are for owners and pets.
For example, three paw print places are deemed as some of the ‘best’ for dogs, thanks to their enhanced facilities such as dog-friendly cafés, washing areas and exercise fields.
While two paw print sites are branded as ‘good’, with them having plenty of water bowls, bins and dog-friendly places to walk.
Trialled earlier this year in London and a number of South East National Trust locations, the initiative reached nearly 13,000 owners and their dogs.
Ceinwen Paynton, National Trust’s dogs welcome project manager, said: “We were delighted to be able to say ‘thank you’ to our dog-loving supporters in London and the South East with our Pooch Passport. And now we get the chance to do it all over again, reaching even more dog owners and encouraging them to get out explore with the National Trust.”
