We all know that dressing for a Great British Summer can be a challenge; as soon as we get to enjoy a few days of sunshine, you can bet that the blue morning skies will turn into rainclouds by the afternoon.

But if you're feeling a little uninspired about what to wear at the moment, given it's been more like April than July, actress Natalie Portman is here to help.

The Black Swan star was spotted in New York this week, and she's given us the perfect outfit formula for wearing on those 'What's the weather doing?' days: lightweight knit + wide-leg jeans + glossy black shoes + tote bag.

Papped as she arrived for an interview on The View, Natalie's style was the epitome of effortless chic as she masterfully blended luxe wardrobe staples with contrasting textures to create a classic daytime look.

The Oscar winner paired a cashmere Chloe sweater embellished with white pearls together with high-waisted, wide-leg jeans from Ulla Johnson, featuring gold buttons and large pockets at the front. She completed her look with a pair of classic glossy black leather heels and Dior's iconic Book Tote.

If there's one essential wardrobe staple to have on hand when transitional dressing is called for, it's a lightweight cashmere knit. We think Natalie's embellished style is perfect for both the office and your days off. Meanwhile, her wide-leg jeans are super flattering but will also keep you warm enough on cloudy days.

Here at Red, we're also big believers in investing in more expensive accessories to elevate your high-street pieces, so we fully approve of Natalie's designer bag choice.
