Naked dresses made their mark at the Oscars' after-parties
As 2025's mighty awards season draws to a close, there's still time for some last-minute entries into the most daring dresses hall of fame. While the most opulent and sophisticated gowns were saved for the main Academy Awards event, the after-parties are where the stars are able to let loose with both their celebrations and their fashion.
This year, naked dresses made a clear return to the after-party red carpet. Julia Fox may not have been nominated for an Academy Award this year, but the Uncut Gems actress swept the award for most daring dress of the season, arriving at an Oscars after-party wearing a completely sheer piece by London Fashion Week favourite Dilara Findikoglu, which incorporated strands of hair into the see-through design.
Also opting for a barely-there gown was Olivia Wilde, who chose a romantic sheer peignoir-style piece from Chemena Kamali's Chloé SS25 collection with lace detailing, which she styled with a pair of lace briefs and a shell clutch bag, also by the fashion house.
The Jenner sisters decided to match in sheer pieces too; Kendall pulled from the archives for her Mugler SS92 high-neck black lace gown, while her younger sister attended an after-party with beau Timothée Chalamet in a corseted Ashi Studio couture dress. Model Emily Ratajkowski also went for a risqué black number with a form-fitting empire-line dress with intricate cut-out details by Ludovic de Saint Sernin, while Christina Ricci embraced spring florals in her own gothic way in a flower-and-bead-embellished gown with sheer panelling.
In another take on daring dressing, Zoë Kravitz embraced the 'business in the front, party in the back' memo with a satin long-sleeved gown which featured a sheer detail behind, exposing her derriere through a bead-embellished mesh cut-out.
Like Jenner, Keke Palmer went down the vintage route for the after-party, wearing an archival Atelier Versace AW98 couture dress with a flowing white skirt and shimmering chainmail bodice, a look which also happened to be worn by Christina Aguilera back in 2003 for MTV's Europe Music Awards.
Other pieces came served straight off the runway, including as Ciara's feather-and-crystal laden DSquared2 jumpsuit which had just been shown at the autumn/winter 25 show in Milan.
While the weather might be teasing sunshine and slightly warmer temperatures, we think we'll leave the barely-there dresses for the celebrities to brave, for now.
