Ukrainian designers prepare for fashion week amid unrest
Around 50 brands will show at Ukrainian Fashion Week (UFW), set for Sept. 1 through 4 in Kyiv, marking the event's return for the first time since 2022, when Russia first invaded the capital. Despite ongoing unrest and a very real threat of airstrikes in Kyiv, which was most recently hit on July 8, the community feels the event is a necessary show of strength. "The war is of course always a challenge, but as long as we're doing this, I understand that there is nothing impossible for my team and for Ukrainians in general," Ivan Frolov, founder of Frolov told Vogue Business editor Lucy Maguire. Chanel said to be considering Simon Porte Jacquemus for creative director role
Twelve weeks after Virginie Viard's exit, Chanel has yet to name her successor. Industry greats including Hedi Slimane, Gabriella Hearst and more have been named in the rumor mill, but Simon Porte Jacquemus has emerged as a potential frontrunner for the creative director position. Lauren Sherman reported that the young designer is preparing a presentation for the Werthemeir family, while Thom Browne and Pieter Mulier also reportedly remain in the running. {Puck}
Ulta's second-quarter earnings fell flat
Ulta's comparable sales fell 1.2% during the second quarter of 2024, a sharp decline from the 8% increase it saw in Q2 of 2023. The company updated its 2024 outlook accordingly, decreasing estimated net sales from $11.5 to $11.6 billion to $11 to $11.2 billion for 2024. "We are clear about the factors that adversely impacted our store performance, and we have actions underway to address the trends," CEO Dave Kimbell said in a press release. {Ulta}
