These are the shoes everyone will be wearing this fall

A cute pair of socks might give you another few weeks in your summer shoes, but sooner or later, it’ll be time to trade them in for warmer styles. Make sure you’re ready for fall by stocking up on the very best fall footwear. Keep scrolling for the four types of shoes you need this autumn — and the pairs we’re currently coveting.

1. Heeled Booties

This versatile fall favorite adds some glam to jeans, dresses, skirts and any other fall outfit you can imagine.

Comfortable and chic, these leather ankle booties are truly timeless. The only seam runs diagonally across the entire shoe, and the zipper is located in the back, creating a sleek and distinct silhouette. Memory foam soles and a solid block heel will keep your feet feeling great all day long. Besides this gorgeous off-white color, they come in black, cognac and tan.

Try something a little different with these knit booties, which feel pretty much like a pair of slippers. The stretchy ribbed fabric makes them way more gentle than thicker, stiffer leather. It’s made of recycled plastic bottles, meaning you’re doing good for yourself and the planet. Get them in black, brown or off-white.

2. High-Top Sneakers

We love sneakers no matter what the season, but high-tops are best for cooler weather. Pro tip: They’re also the perfect excuse to buy some extra cute ankle socks.

Soft suede makes these high-tops a bit nicer than your standard sneakers. They obviously look great with jeans and are also a cute way to add some edge to a long, flowy skirt. Choose between several different shades in both the suede upper and rubber soles. Canvas and leather versions are also available. Bonus: For every pair of shoes you buy, two trees are planted in the Brazilian rainforest.

$129 at Cariuma

This iconic collaboration is absolutely worth the investment. A fun design by Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçon gives an avant-garde twist to classic Chuck Taylors. Expect to feel happy every time you look down at your feet! The gray version also has a black illustration, while black and white come with a pop of red.

3. Loafers

Loafers have been the fall shoe of choice for generations, and you definitely need a pair in your closet this season.

Chunky lug soles make these classic leather penny loafers feel totally current — or rather, like a totally trendy ‘90s throwback. Depending on what you style them with, they’re easy to dress up or down. Madewell’s Cloudlift insoles provide serious cushioning, so you might just want to snag a pair in light brown, too.

$158 at Madewell

These loafers have a simple silhouette that makes them not quite as preppy as a more traditional pair. Notches on each side and a slightly pointed toe create a polished, sophisticated look. They come in both standard and wide options, with a range of neutral shades as well as a pretty rose. Thick foam insoles will keep your feet exceedingly happy.

4. Insulated Boots

It’s (hopefully) too soon for your hardcore snow boots, but you should have some options with extra insulation as the temperature starts to drop.

Lined with 100% Australian shearling, these cozy boots will make your feet feel like they’re cuddled inside of an enormous cloud. Non-slip rubber soles and a water-repellent suede upper mean they can stand up to a bit of rain or snow, too. In addition to this warm beige, they’re available in black and gray.

$80 at Quince

With the iconic Dr. Martens yellow welt stitching and grooved soles, these Chelsea boots have just the right amount of edge. Waxed leather and soft faux fur will keep your feet warm and toasty. Choose from five colors.
